Service and Passion: KaPrimer Red Pamintuan's ingredients of leadership

September 2, 2019

If leadership is passion for excellence and service for people considered as family, then Area Sales Head (formerly for East NCR, now for Central NCR) Red Pamintuan exhibits exactly that.

Being with the Primer Group of Companies for almost 14 years, Red has been helping achieve profitability and setting high retail standards in stores together with the Retail Sales Management Team, whom he now considers as family along with Primer leaders and every Primer employee (KaPrimer) he has worked with.

“Being a KaPrimer is simply being a part of a family. The bond and respect among the members are just a few aspects why people like me stay in the company for a long time.”

With colleagues whom he considers as family and with a company that he says has been “helping him not only achieve his career goals but also develop good relationship with other people”, Red is always inspired to serve, motivate, and inspire them.

“I strongly believe that positive attitude brings positive output. I always tell my team that nothing is impossible. Dreams can be translated to reality as long as you have passion, hard work, and discipline. I also want to share my learnings and pass on my experiences to those whom I handle with the hopes that it could help them get through and cope with their current struggles.”

Service, especially for his family, has always been embedded in Red ever since he was young. Being the eldest among five siblings, Red took over the role of being the breadwinner of their family when his parents were no longer working. “My family has always been my inspiration. As the eldest son, I have always wanted to give them the best. I want to give them not only the material things but the quality time which can give me the best memories I could ever share with them.”

With a family that gives him a sense of belonging, with closest friends who stand as his support system, and with a stable job that provides security and personal development, Red finds it easy to integrate what he does for ‘play’ with what he does for ‘work’, such as applying insights he gains during travels to his job. “I love travelling. I love seeing new things, and meeting people. Awareness is important to drive a retail store. Because of my travels, I get to have an insight of other people’s preference, what’s new, what’s in, the things that we are missing, probably ignore or unable to notice. It is important for the retail team to act fast otherwise we would be left behind. With that, I get to integrate my travel interest as some sort of analysis and awareness.”

How does he integrate work and play so well, while also making sure to fulfill his roles and responsibilities as a leader? He says that he does these through proper planning and time management. “I am a planner. I have always believed that when you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Although he does well in time management and even though he pours lots of time and effort for his actual family and his work family, he still takes breaks from time to time. As a way to relax and unwind, he travels and hangs out with his friends. “Take your personal time and enjoy it so when you come back for work, you are fully energized. Master the art of time management and planning. Set your priorities right and ask yourself what you really want whether it would be for work or not and how ‘play’ would have an impact on your work performance.”

Break Time

After Work

Beyond all these, Red naturally exhibits leadership, as he cares not only for himself and for his family, but also for the bigger world out there. Moreover, he believes that teamwork always delivers great results, and this was among his realizations during the Outreach Program for CRIBS Foundation in 2013.

“I must say the project wasn’t only a memory to keep but it was a great experience and I grew so much as a person. I still remember how my heart ached for those abandoned babies and children. Somehow, it made me realize there is so much more we could do as human beings to be able to give back to the society and to be there for those who are in dire need of help. Every individual could really make a difference in this world. Whether you are a salesman or a big boss of a company, with all the efforts combined as a team, we could do something amazing.”
