DC BRAND LAUNCHING

Press Release

Manila, Philippines— DC is proud to announce the official brand launch with the release in Asia Pacific for the Spring 2010 collaboration with renowned Singaporean design collective RoyaleFam (www.royalefam.com <http://www.royalefam.com>). The collection will officially hit select DC outlets in the Philippines. To celebrate the release, DC will be hosting an event in Eastwood Libis, Philippines on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

The first collaboration between DC x RoyaleFam boasts three shoes, a pair of board shorts, two t-shirts and two hats all designed by SBTG. The design inspiration comes from the legendary skateboard crew called the “Circus of Mutants” who were famous in Singapore in the 80’s and 90’s. While SBTG himself was not a member of this crew he was chosen to tell the story of the “Circus”. This crew included “The Fly” (along with other local legends “The Bat”, “Scorpion”, and “Frankenstein”) and as such the first installment of the “Circus of Mutants” is based on Singaporean legend Lucas Ng – “The Fly”.

In the collection’s design, a fly has been used by SBTG throughout all pieces to pay respect to “The Fly” who was one of the early pioneers in Singaporean skateboarding, and one of the few who could really claim to have brought the sport to his native country. His early nickname was branded to Lucas by members of the “Circus of Mutants” crew because of the skateboarders unrivalled ability to spend more time in the air than on the ground. Lucas still, in the modern day, contributes to the skateboarding scene as owner / operator of two of Singapore’s finest skateboarding lifestyle stores.

In conjunction with the event DC are selecting 20 artists to participate in an art competition that celebrates the role of collaborations in culture and the connections between skateboarding, street art and design progression.

The competition is open to artists from the Philippines only, before this competition concept heads into the Asia Pacific region, including making a stop in “The Fly” and SBTG’s native country Singapore.

The selected artists will be given a blank skateboard deck to use as their canvas as they showcase their talents in front of local and international media as well as the chance to win 50,000 worth of GC and 15,000 worth of cash.

If you are a resident from the Philippines and interested in being an artist selected for this competition please email (deckart@gmail.com). Deadline of application February 8,2010.

Your email should include your short biography in 200 words or less as well as two to five low resolutions examples of your previous work (Artwork not necessary on skateboard deck). The best 20 applicants will then be supplied with a skateboard deck due for submission by Wednesday, February 24, 2010, which will be on display at the launch event and judged by SBTG – live in Manor, Eastwood Libis, Philippines on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

About RoyaleFam:
Royalefam was created in 2003. Their designs draw inspiration from the skate culture through the 80's and 90's, as well as being heavily influenced by punk rock and thrash metal music. Other factors include military aesthetics and a fascination with American vintage clothing. An era from when products were made with much integrity and respect.

Made for the discerning streetwear enthusiast and sneakerhead, Royalefam ranges from the DIY discipline of SBTG Custom Kicks to the signature tees and hoodies featuring iconic imagery and modern interpretations of street wear classics, cut-and-sew hybrid pieces featuring innovative details. We aim to quench the thirst of the elite individual who refuses to be associated with the words ‘generic mass produced’. Their products are the result of pure passion for design and for life as defined by the brand motto: "Evolve Beyond".

About SBTG:
Born and raised in Singapore, Mark Ong a.k.a SBTG is a name synonymous with the art of sneaker customizing. Starting as a hobby painter, Sabotaged sneakers was born in his parents’ kitchen. Heavily driven by passion, his body of work is an unguided result of his life which depicts influences from skateboarding through the late 80's to mid 90's, military aesthetics and disciplines, and heavy metal and punk music from that era.

Since 2003, he has individually hand-made more than a thousand sneakers in hundreds of designs. He has been invited to commission designs for industry giants like Nike and New Balance, including retailers like ATMOS & Chapter, and Nomme De Guerra. Mark's uniquely handcrafted sneakers take the art of D.I.Y to new levels and have attracted the likes of James Lavelle, Mike Shinoda and Joe Hahn from Linkin Park, as well as Q-tip and more recently Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers. His creative vision was later reinforced by the birth of Royalefam, which includes SBTG Custom Kicks and the apparel line.
